How to Tune A Ukulele

Learning How to Tune a Ukulele is one of the first things you will need to learn how to do before you can play. When your Ukulele is not in tune, the notes you play have no relation to the music. Ukuleles are usually tuned (CGEA)
If you are a beginner, using an electronic tuner is usually the easiest way to tune your Ukulele. The type of tuner you should use for a Ukulele is a chromatic tuner. (a guitar tuner will only let you tune to the guitars notes (EADGBE)

There are many electronic tuners on the market, one of the most popular and trusted brands is the Snark SN-2 Clip-On Chromatic Tuner

Once your Ukulele is properly tuned you will want to go over and practice some basic chords. Below is a Ukulele Chord Chart for the standard (CGEA) tuning. Using these basic chords you will be able to play many songs.

Ukulele Chord Chart - Major Chords CGEA Tuning

A fun way to start would be the popular Jason Mraz song I’m Your’s. Here is a tutorial of the simplified version of the song.

Good Luck and most importantly -have fun!!

This is a great resource for beginning ukulele players. We recently bought my son a ukulele and this chart was very helpful to him. Will be working on the video tutorial next!

Thanks for the great info.

This tuning is incorrect!!! It is GCEA. both your blog post AND the chord chart have incorrect information. I would expect more precise information from a self-proclaimed "leading provider of Musical Instruments & Music Gear online" resource...
